Welcome to Berlin Brothersvalley School District's Special Education webpage. My name is Maria Tuthill Murphy and I am pleased to be serving this district since the 1990-91 school year.
In 1985 I graduated from Marywood College, (now Marywood University) in Scranton, PA with Bachelor of Science in Special Education. Before moving to Western PA, I worked in Northeast PA for MH/MR and ran their homebound program and adolescent recreation program. I also was employed by St. Joseph's Center and worked as a Specialist with multi handicapped children and adults.
After beginning my employment as a High School Learning Support teacher at BBHS, I earned my Masters Degree in Reading and earned my Reading Specialist Certification from IUP in 1994. I was asked to take over the role as IEP Coordinator in 1999 and in 2004, I added Supervisor of Special Education to my certificate when I completed the necessary coursework and Praxis at The University of Pittsburgh.
My two children, Jack and Kate attended Berlin Schools. Jack is a graduate of BBSD's class of 2014 and Seton Hill University’s class of 2018. My daughter Kate is a 2015 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School and a 2019 graduate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. We are proud to be members of the Berlin Community.
