Mrs. Holly McKenzie
Welcome to my Teacher Web Page! I’m Holly McKenzie and I’m currently teaching 5th and 6th grade Learning Support/Regular Education classes. I have attended BBSD since kindergarten. I was a volleyball player as well as a cheerleader here at Berlin-Brothersvalley. Upon graduation, I attended California University of Pennsylvania where I obtained my degree in Elementary Education.
In 1991, I began working as a substitute teacher here at Berlin. My husband, Brandon, and I have three children who have attended Berlin schools: Logan, a 2013 graduate of BBSD and a graduate from the University of Pittsburgh and gainfully employed, Kane, 2015 graduate of BBSD, and he's currently in his second year of Medical School, and Kara is a freshman at Seton University. Brandon had been the Jr. High Wrestling coach here for several years, but due to increased job demands, he has had to take a smaller role in the program as a volunteer.
In 2003, I began working with the district in a group home here in Berlin, and that’s what inspired me to work with children who have learning disabilities. I received my master’s degree from Frostburg State University in Special Education. I continued teaching in the group home in the mornings, and began teaching Learning Support here at BBES in the afternoons.
I became a Title I Teacher at Berlin Elementary School in 2006. I then taught in the 2nd grade for five years. In 2012, I began teaching 5th and 6th grade Learning Support with a focus in Reading and Language Arts. For the past few years, I have added teaching regular education Social Studies and Science to fifth graders to my schedule.
