Rules and Procedures
English 9 Honors
Mrs. Meehan
This is an honors class; you are here because you are on a college/higher career path. You need to have high standards and expectations for yourself, and understand that I do as well.
Every learner has a voice in this class! Let’s learn and discuss together.
- Respect the opinions of others. You will be sharing your work with others and peer editing, often.
HOMEWORK
- There will be homework, often reading. It is imperative that you keep up. I understand that you have other classes and extracurricular activities, so I will give you class time to work on it as often as I can.
- Homework assignments will be graded. Groups of homework grades will be combined to comprise quiz grades.
- Homework is due at the start of the period on its assigned day.
- You will be given one Free Homework Pass per nine weeks (not to be used if homework is reading). If you don’t use it, you may turn it in at the end of the grading period for 5 bonus points.
PARTICIPATION POINTS
- You will be give 45 points at the start of each nine weeks for participation. You will keep or lose that point each day depending on your behavior. Come in, sit down, start your bell ringer or journal work, participate in discussions, and wait to be dismissed to get that point!
VOCABULARY CARDS
- All vocabulary words need to be on specific vocabulary cards that I will give you. It is extremely important that you keep (and study) these cards.
- Tests will be on random words from all year – no memorizing for a test and then dismissing meanings from your minds.
- Bring to class EVERY DAY! (if you don’t – 0 participation pts.)
MISSED CLASSES
- Any time you are not in class, I will put any work you missed in the folder for your period.
- You have one day for each day missed to complete and turn it in – after that it will be considered late.
- If you miss a quiz or test, see me to set up a make-up time.
- If you know beforehand that you are going to miss class, see me to get the work before you are absent.

Two of my pet peeves
- Do not line up at the door to wait for the bell to ring! Stay in your seats until I or the bell dismisses you. (Participation point loss possible.)
- If you turn in a paper that does not have your name on it, you will automatically lose 10% of that grade; this includes homework assignments.
BE THE FIVE Ps!!!
PROMPT – Be on time!
PREPARED – bring all materials – EVERYDAY --
- Pencil
- Binder
- Vocabulary cards
- Book or magazine to read
PRODUCTIVE – Maximize learning time by staying on task,
following directions, and completing all
work.
POLITE – Be nice, or at the very least neutral, to everyone at
all times. Swearing, teasing, bullying, and talking
back will not be tolerated.
Respect your teacher, your classmates, your
environment, and yourself.
PATIENT – Wait respectfully for your turn.
Don’t complain – this is a NO WHINE ZONE!
